Default Would you wear black to a wedding now?

I understand that this old ettiquette rule is considered somewhat dated now. I’ll be invited to a wedding in the evening. I would like to wear a black long evening dress. I'm trying to lose weight. So I'm really not wanting to purchase an expensive dress just for this one occasion. But should I? I can't remember what other ladies were wearing the last wedding I attended. Is black truly ok now? What say you?

fashion this days has some twist...traditional clothes and dresses to a specific occasions was just fine now...as long as it'll still matches with the motif i think it would be ok...i've seen a wedding who had this gothic motif...
